CALLED TO SERVE LINDSEY LANDGRAF
I recently graduated from Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and on Honors’ Night, received the Salvatorian Service Award along with 29 other seniors. The award was presented by the school’s sponsors, the Sisters of the Divine Savior, to seniors who volunteered on an extraordinary level. Service is everything in the context of my faith. I see God the most when I do something for others. I see God in their smiles. I have learned from service that I am accomplishing something. The different service experiences helped me to determine what I want to do with my life. I plan to be a social worker. I am a lifelong member of Holy Apostles Parish, New Berlin, Wisconsin and attend church with my parents, sister Katie, and two brothers, Andy and Ben. I’ve participated in my parish confirmation program and as a lector. My parish gave me the opportunity to volunteer at its work camp in Black Hills, South Dakota where, last summer, I helped paint and rehab homes. My faith grew when I was member of the DSHA Campus Ministry Council and helped with liturgies and also served as a retreat leader. At my parish, I had the opportunity to be a peer minister for the confirmation program. I came to know my values and the role faith played in all my activities. Enjoying athletics, I’ve played volleyball and rugby. The past five years, I volunteered with Special Olympics because my sister Katie was involved so I wanted to support her and help as a coaching assistant. My service experiences have impacted how I pray. My prayer life has deepened. I find myself praying for others by name. Now the people I’ve served have names and faces. Service will be a vital part of my future.
